2020 Feels

Throughout history, society and race have shaped cultural lines and what is deemed popular and desirable. Black people have been kept in the background, especially black women. They've been told that they would never amount to the beauty of the white woman. In all actuality, black women with their different doses of melanin are the epitome of beauty. My watercolor paintings are expressions of how I define beauty. With that said, black women are the predominate figures in my work.

With today’s civic unrest and injustice, specifically in the Breonna Taylor case, black women want and need to be heard, seen, and understood. As a black woman, I felt it was important to showcase the intimacy, humanity, and beauty of the black woman.
